ENROLMENT INFORMATION
If you wish to obtain enrolment information,
please contact us regarding any queries you may have or to arrange a school
tour. We can send you an information
pack if you are not in the immediate area that should be able to provide additional
information that you require. This
information pack also contains a CD for your perusal. Like all schools in our network, we request
that enrolment forms are lodged by the end of Term 2. This allows us the necessary time to plan for
transition and staffing for next year.
PREP INFORMATION
An
introduction to our School Information for Prep Families.
Access Points:
The main foot
entrances to the school are situated at the small gates in Summit Crescent and
the school crossing in Felix Crescent. Please
remember to use the correct gates when bringing or collecting your child. The
double gates in Aurum and Felix Crescents must not be
used, as they are regularly used by motor vehicles.
School Uniform:
Ringwood
Heights has a very attractive school dress code that we require all children to
wear. The wide range of very practical clothing items can be purchased at very
reasonable cost from the Uniform Shop based in the room opening on to the
netball court, or alternatively items can be purchased in the appropriate
colours from most of the department stores in the area. In addition, second hand uniform items are
available at significantly discounted prices.
We also have a Sun Smart Policy that requires children to wear
appropriate hats in terms 1 and 4. To
protect your child’s feet from injury, thongs or open toed sandals are not
permitted. Similarly, long earrings that can be dangerous in certain game
situations are not to be worn.
School Lunches:
Lunch is a
very important meal to children of school age. It is essential that each child
is provided with a healthy and nutritious meal to give them the nutrients and
energy to gain maximum benefit from a day at school. Lunches brought from home should aim to
provide the child with healthy food that they will enjoy eating. We ask that
cans and bottles not be brought to school as they may constitute a danger in
the yard. Children are not permitted to
leave the school grounds and go home for lunches unless they have a signed note
from home. We discourage going home for lunch because we cannot supervise or
accept responsibility for your child's personal safety en-route from school to
home and back again.
Working Bees:
The
Facilities and Grounds Committee of School Council is responsible for
maintaining and improving the school environment. Whilst we pay tradespeople to complete major
projects around the school, we very much rely on parental assistance with
general maintenance. As such, we request
the participation of each Ringwood Heights family in at least one working bee
each year. Whilst this approach obviously saves money, it has the added
advantage of actively involving families in our school. This greatly increases
the feeling of ownership and pride that children have in their school.
Information Nights:
During the
year we have several evenings, nights where we provide parents with information
on various aspects of school curriculum and organisation. The topics for these
evenings usually arise from interest generated through Education Sub Committee
or School Council. When possible we also enlist the assistance of visiting
speakers with expertise in the areas in question.
Reporting to Parents:
Reporting to
parents will:
§ provide clear
information on student achievement in the 8 key learning areas,
§ communicate
clear and comprehensive information on the content of our programs,
§ focus
positively on student progress and achievement,
§ provide clear
information on areas requiring improvement in student performance,
§ involve
parents in a co-operative partnership in student learning,
§ ensure that
children have a clear understanding of their progress and achievement,
§ include regular
monitoring and reporting of children with impairments and disabilities through
Integration Support Group meetings.
Parent
interviews are held in July each year, providing both parents and teachers with
an invaluable opportunity to get together and discuss each child's progress.
Portfolios of children's work samples and written reports support this
interview, and are also sent home in December.
We encourage open communication between parents and teachers and as such
parents are welcome to make an appointment with a class teacher at any time
during the year when a specific concern arises. Such meetings should be
arranged through a note or a telephone call to the teacher in question.
Unplanned interruptions during the day cause great inconvenience to school
organisation and are unacceptable.
Newsletter:
The
newsletter (Heights Happenings) is sent home (or emailed if requested) every
Wednesday afternoon and contains a great deal of important information relating
to the efficient running of the school. Such things as meeting times, excursion
dates, curriculums and special activities are all routinely listed in this
publication. It is important that parents ask children for this newsletter and
read it carefully.
PARENT ROLES
Parents are
an intrinsic part of daily life at Ringwood Heights Primary School. There are many and varied roles within the
school community and we welcome parent participation at whatever level you are
able to contribute. Siblings and
extended family members are also well supported within our family focussed
learning environment
FIRST
AID FACILITIES
We place great importance on being
prepared for medical emergencies and have a fully documented First Aid and
Medications Policy. Management plans and
appropriate procedures are followed, for students with “at risk” medical
conditions such as asthma or diabetes.
We require that all our staff are trained at
Level 1 Workplace First Aid with four staff members having Level 2 Workplace
First Aid. Staff are
timetabled to supervise the First Aid Room on a daily basis.
